Watson Elementary Port Gibson Middle School Port GibsonUpperSchool Claiborne County CTE Center Sign In Search Our Site Achieving Excellence Home Home Claiborne County School District Gifted Education Program DESTINY Developing Exceptional Scholars (who are) Talented, Intelligent, Natural, (and) Youthful WELCOME to the Claiborne County School District’s Intellectually Gifted Education Program.This program offers instruction and exploration in various content areas based on student interests and Mississippi Department of Education Guidelines. Promotion of appropriate, quality education for students identified as intellectually gifted will be the primary goal of providing multiple and varied opportunities for students to investigate and integrate process skills into their lives. Gifted Education students are encouraged and supported in a risk-free learning environment to Realize and maximize their unique potentials. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Claiborne County School District gifted program is to ensure that intellectually gifted children, as specified by the Mississippi Department of Education, are offered towardly educational experiences that are qualitatively variegated from those misogynist in the regular classroom in order to provide opportunities for them to realize their skills and potential. The MDE defines intellectually gifted students as: “those children and youth who are found to have an uncommonly upper stratum of intelligence as documented through the identification process.” The Mississippi Gifted Education Act of 1989, as amended in 1993, mandates that each public school district within the state provide gifted education programs for intellectually gifted students in grades 2-6. Claiborne County School District currently serves the Intellectually Gifted population in Grades 2-6 in a pull-out program of enrichment. DESTINY provides services to identified intellectually gifted students by a properly endorsed teacher of the gifted. Students spend 5 hours per week in DESTINY classes and the rest of their time in unstipulated education classrooms. OUR GOALS ARE: *to cultivate self-direction and autonomy in students.*to enable students to integrate the pursuit process skills in their lives: Thinking Skills Creativity Information Literacy Success Skills Affective (Social and Emotional) Skills Communication Skills *to foster a learning environment that values and enhances the unique characteristics of the intellectually gifted. *to diamond a varied and flexible curriculum that is responsive to the needs, interests, and skills of the intellectually gifted learner.
